With humble beginnings and a tenacious spirit, he has soared to unparalleled heights in the business world. on weekends so that he and his sister could travel the 110 km round trip to and from school daily. Not one to focus on the negative and dwell on the past, Moti chuckles when recounting how, during one of his assignments, he had to choose a topic to write about. He wrote, “When I am a millionaire, I will get my PA to write this for me.” Although a prophetic response, needless to say, he failed that assignment.
Zunaid grew up in a home where money was always tight. He would wash the school bus on weekends so that he and his sister could travel the 110 km round trip to and from school daily. Through pure tenacity, a bit of cheekiness, and developing a deep relationship with his mentor, he made over R40 million from selling shares in a business just before his 22nd birthday.
According to Zunaid, being an entrepreneur boils down to being in a tight spot with no other option but to come up with a plan to provide for yourself and your loved ones. He believes that's why Zimbabwe has so many entrepreneurs, in comparison to South Africa where many don't see it as a matter of life and death, even though the small to medium sector is crucial for the economy. Sadly, even the most talented entrepreneurs in Southern Africa don't always get the right opportunities, and that's one of the biggest challenges they face, according to Zunaid.
Zunaid notes that in many working environments, the younger generation often have a wealth of innovative ideas that have the potential to revolutionise their workplaces. However, he observes that such ideas are frequently rejected by more conservative senior staff or business owners who prefer to maintain the status quo. In contrast, Zunaid holds a firm belief in the value of working with young employees, and is particularly appreciative of their innovative thinking. He actively encourages them to challenge established norms and paradigms. For Zunaid, it's all about embracing the potential for positive change that can result from fresh perspectives and bold ideas, which will undoutedly grow a business.
Zunaid is unquestionably a family man, and he takes immense joy in providing his children with a lifestyle that is vastly different from the one he grew up with. For him, creating precious memories with his loved ones is the ultimate priority, no matter how hectic his schedule may be. In fact, spending quality time with his family is something that Zunaid considers non-negotiable. He firmly believes that finding the right balance between work and play is critical, and that making memories should be a top priority for everyone. After all, as the saying goes, no one ever wished they had spent more time at the office on their deathbed.
Zunaid is a true philanthropist and takes genuine pleasure in helping those in need. This is evidenced by his social responsibility projects in Zimbabwe, where he has built roads, developed water and electricity infrastructure, built clinics and schools, and provided school busses, and females with the dignity of female-specific healthcare products. In Zunaid's view, changing your focus from receiving to giving can lead to a significant improvement in your life. While exceptionally conservative about speaking out about his charitable activities, Zunaid is passionate about changing the lives of others. He believes that fear and self-judgment can hold people back from success. Zunaid encourages people to persevere through setbacks and not let others interfere with their mental, physical and spiritual well-being. Zunaid emphasizes the importance of enjoying the journey, being a good human being, and making a positive impact on the world. He believes that success is not just about achieving personal goals, but also about helping others and leaving a lasting legacy.
For Zunaid, the true measure of success is the positive impact he can make on the lives of others, and he encourages everyone to strive for the same.
